Utah State University offers undergraduate degrees in Psychology which provide students with an understanding of behavior and mental processes. The program uses innovative research and teaching as well as internships to provide students with a thorough understanding of how humans feel, think and behave. Psi Chi, the honor society in psychology, is recommended to help students gain additional hands-on experiences. Students may choose to concentrate their studies in Biological Basis of Behavior, Learning and Cognition, Sociocultural Influences or Persons and Society.
Courses required for the program may include Abnormal Psychology, Behavior Assessment and Intervention, History and Systems of Psychology, Principles of Psychological Measurement and Test Theory as well as Psychological Aspects of Sports Performance and Psychological Statistics.
Students may choose to complete an internship or research project to complete the program. The Bachelor of Arts degree requires proficiency in one or more foreign languages while the Bachelor of Science has no language requirement.
Utah State University offers a Rehabilitation Counseling post-graduate certificate that prepares students to sit for the CRC examination for national certification. On the first attempt, 94 percent of those who complete the program at Utah State University pass the exam on the first try. In order to enter the program, students must hold a master’s, specialist or doctoral degree. Courses required for the program include subjects such as Assessment in Rehabilitation Counseling, Medical Aspects of Disability, Psychosocial Aspects of Disability and Theories of Counseling.
The Master of Rehabilitation Counseling provides students with an understanding of the services necessary to assist adults with disabilities obtain employment and live their best life. The program is offered in a hybrid version of online and on-campus formats. The program prepares students to sit for the Certified Rehabilitation Counselor examination which 94 percent of students who graduate from the program pass. Students are prepared to be master’s level counselors and the advancement of the basic views of rehabilitation. The Master of Education in Psychology with a concentration in School Counseling focuses on training professionals to work in the Kindergarten through grade 12 setting. Students gain an understanding of the design and implementation of school-based comprehensive guidance systems as well as how to manage individual along with group counseling for populations that are growing increasingly diverse. There is also instruction in in behavior and educational assessment and intervention, research and methodological foundation, career development and the ethical, legal and professional standards required in the industry.
The doctorate in School Psychology is only available for those who hold an education specialist degree. The program prepares students for leadership roles in the K-12 setting. The program includes instruction in assessment, intervention and consultation with parents and educators. There is also training in promoting positive educational and mental health outcomes for children of varied cultural, economic, racial and ethnic backgrounds.

About Utah State University
The Agricultural College of Utah was founded in 1888 with the first student enrolling in 1890. The school was established as part of the Morrill Land-Grant Colleges Act which was designed to establish an institute of higher learning in every state and territory. The first degrees in business were issued in 1894, making the school the oldest continuously operating business school.
In 1907, state legislators attempted to consolidate the Agricultural College with the University of Utah due to fears the college would interfere with the university’s growth. The measure failed but the legislature did pass a measure that limited the Agricultural College’s curriculum to agriculture, domestic science, and mechanic art. Programs that were doing well, such as arts, humanities, and education, were closed although the Morrill Act required that those programs be included. In 1918, campus temporarily became a military institution in order to support the efforts of World War I.
Curriculum restrictions were lifted in 1927 except for law and medicine. In 1929, the school was renamed the Utah State Agricultural College. During World War II, enrollment dropped from over 3,600 to less than 1,200. The Field House was modified for a barracks in order to house the Army Specialized Training Program. In 1957, the school was renamed Utah State University.
Today, there are almost 28,000 students enrolled at Utah State University. Washington Monthly ranks Utah State University as the 5th national public university in the country and US News & World Report is ranked as the 5th best online bachelor’s program in the country. The school is also ranked 6th among Colleges of Education for total research funding by US News & World Report. Forbes ranks the school the 7th highest public university in the country with the lowest tuition.

Utah State University Application Requirements
In order to be admitted to the undergraduate program in Psychology, they must either complete the pre-psychology program at Utah State University or must have a 2.75 overall GPA in pre-psychology work. They must complete either 40 semester credits at another college or university or 18 credits at Utah State University with a 3.0 GPA or higher. They must complete an application and submit transcripts from all colleges or universities attended if transferring.
In order to enter the Rehabilitation Counseling or Psychology graduate program, they must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher for the master’s degree or a master’s degree or higher for the certificate program. They must also score at or above the 40th percentile on the GRE or MAT and have 3.0 GPA on their last 60 semester or 90 quarter credits. Applicants must provide transcripts from all colleges or universities attended, three contacts for letters of recommendation and a letter of intent. Applicants to doctorate programs must hold a master’s degree or higher.
