The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay offers a B.S. in Psychology, as well as a psychology minor. Both are available on campus or fully online through UW-Green Bay’s global campus. All students in the psychology program will complete coursework in four core areas: physiological/cognitive psychology, social/personality psychology, developmental psychology, and clinical psychology. All students are also required to conduct and evaluate research. In year 4, psychology majors may take either a teaching assistantship or a research assistantship in addition to an internship. The university also offers ample opportunities for individualized learning, with independent studies and honors courses available for interested and qualified students.

UW-Green Bay has developed an impressive network of partnerships in order to facilitate internship opportunities for students at Fortune 500 companies. Recent psychology majors at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay have secured internships at major companies like Humana, AmeriCorps, and Schneider National, Inc.

For those who wish to continue their psychology studies in graduate school, undergraduate students are offered resources and tips for preparing for graduate work, with frequent events held throughout the year designed to give students the opportunity to network and learn how best to prepare for their master’s or doctoral programs. While UW-Green Bay does not have a graduate program in counseling or psychology, other University of Wisconsin campuses offer these programs.

Students who are not able to take classes on UW’s campus are able to complete their entire B.S. in Psychology program online, with the exception of teaching or research assistantships or internships, which may require in-person contact.

All students enrolled in psychology courses at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay receive access to the campus’ Psychology and Human Development Success Center, which provides peer advisors, study sessions, tutoring, and information on individualized learning and networking opportunities.

The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay is one of 13 four-year universities in the University of Wisconsin system. The UW system serves more than 170,000 students per year taught by almost 40,000 faculty and staff throughout the state. The University of Wisconsin System was founded in 1971, combining the original land-grant university at Madison, founded in 1849, with the former University of Wisconsin, founded in 1848, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, founded in 1968, and University of Wisconsin-Parkside, also founded in 1968.

In addition to the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay’s main campus and online offerings, UW-Green Bay also has branch campuses in Marinette, Manitowoc, and Sheboygan. In 2017, it was announced that the branch campuses, originally part of the U.W. College, would be connected with UW-Green Bay. The realignment was effective July 1, 2018 as part of the process of joining the 13 two-year U.W. College campuses with the University of Wisconsin System’s four-year universities. With this merger, the University of Wisconsin System grew to 13 four-year universities and 13 two-year branch campuses with an annual budget of $6 billion and more than 36,000 degrees awarded annually. University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Accreditation Details

The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. In 2017, following the 10-year comprehensive accreditation review, the university was granted full accreditation until 2027, at which time another review will take place.

University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Application Requirements

The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay accepts freshman, transfer, international, and online students, with slightly different application processes for each situation. For traditional freshmen students, an online application must be submitted, along with a $50 application fee. Applicants must also submit high school transcripts and official ACT or SAT scores. Applicants also complete an essay about their academic successes and challenges, how they overcame challenges, and how they feel they can contribute to the UW campus. While letters of recommendation are not required, they are strongly encouraged, especially for applicants whose transcripts don’t accurately reflect the student’s academic potential.

The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay has rolling admissions, with an application deadline of September 1st of student’s high school senior year. Prospective students are encouraged to submit applications for UW-Green Bay’s online program four to six months prior to the desired start date to ensure that each prospective student is able to speak with an advisor and develop an appropriate academic plan prior to enrolling.

Tuition and Financial Aid

The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay is part of the Michigan Compact, Minnesota Reciprocity program, Upper Michigan Resident program, and the Midwest Student Exchange Program. As a result, students in the Michigan Compact, Minnesota Reciprocity, and Upper Michigan Resident programs all receive the $2,375 per semester tuition rate that Wisconsin residents receive. Those in the Midwest Student Exchange Program receive a discounted tuition rate of $3,562 per semester. The non-resident tuition rate for 2019 is $6,160 per semester. There are additional fees for sports, books, room and board, child care, and healthcare, in addition to course-specific fees. Freshman are also required to pay a $150 new student fee, $30 placement fees, and a $15 student ID card fee.

In addition to the residency tuition discounts listed above, the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay accepts federal financial aid, including Pell grants, student loans, and work-study programs. For those with physical, emotional, or learning disabilities, the State Division of Vocational Rehabilitation also offers grants.

UW-Green Bay also offers scholarships to new freshman, current students, and graduate students. All students who submit applications to attend the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay receive automatic consideration for these scholarships. The university also offers several private scholarships that are awarded specifically to psychology majors. These include the Bonnie M. and Fergus P. Hughes Annual Scholarship, the Matter Memorial Scholarship, the Casie Rindfleisch-Schultz Scholarship, and the KaNisha Fleming Memorial Scholarship. These scholarships are offered to current students who have declared a psychology major and meet the particular criteria specified by the donors.
