In Bohannon Hall, the College of Education & Human Service Professions grants the Psychology Major (B.A.Sc.) for small University of Minnesota Duluth cohorts around 30 to analyze healthy and unhealthy human behaviors. Exclusively in Duluth, the Master of Arts in Psychological Science (MAPS) admits 10 post-grads yearly in three tracks: Clinical Counseling, Industrial-Organizational, and Experimental. The 36-50 credit option directed by Dr. Lara LaCaille, a Blehart Distinguished Teaching Award winner, advances helping skills in classes from Cognitive Assessment to Personnel Training. Fulfilling LPCC licensure, the two-year sequence mandates 700 hours at practicum sites, such as Birch Tree Center, Essentia Health, Northwood Children’s Services, Nystrom, and St. Luke’s.
About the University of Minnesota Duluth
The University of Minnesota Duluth originated in 1895 when the Duluth Normal School created a six-acre teaching campus on East Fifth Street destroyed by fire six years later. In April 1901, Eugene W. Bohannon reopened it for an inaugural group of 127 women paying just $30 yearly. After two decades, it became Duluth State Teachers College with its first Bachelor of Arts option. On July 1, 1947, Governor Luther Youngdahl approved its merger into the five-site University of Minnesota system. By 1949, the Science Building was erected at its 244-acre “Zenith City” campus surrounding Kirby Plaza on Lake Superior. University of Minnesota Duluth Accreditation Details
On July 30, 2018, the University of Minnesota Duluth satisfactorily completed a decennial institutional evaluation by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association (HLC-NCA) to retain Level V accreditation under its fourth Chancellor, Dr. Lendley C. Black, who accepted the 2011 UMN Unit Award for Equity and Diversity. Located 472 miles southeast via Interstate 94 in Chicago, this gigantic 19-state Great Lakes accreditor is recognized by the U.S. Education Department to ensure the academic validity of Duluth’s 94 baccalaureate, 24 master’s, one doctoral, and 10 certificate programs from Cloquet to Rochester and online. In 2017, the College of Education & Human Service Professions was accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) too.
University of Minnesota Duluth Application Requirements
Admission to the University of Minnesota Duluth is labeled “moderately difficult” by Peterson’s since 6,660 of the 8,689 Fall 2017 applicants were triumphant for just 76 percent acceptance. First-year Bulldogs fetching the Psychology Major (B.A.Sc.) with a high school diploma or GED must finish 24+ credits first. The College of Education & Human Service Professions lists General Psychology (PSY 1003) as a prerequisite. Cumulative GPAs above 2.5 are necessary, but the median is 3.48. On average, undergrads present an 1160 SAT and 24 ACT score. Online Bachelor of Applied Science students must have culminated the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum. This requires an Associate of Arts (A.A.) or 40 credits in 10 goal areas, including College Algebra, and minimum 2.5 GPAs. Master of Arts in Psychological Science cohorts need an accredited bachelor’s with two prerequisites: Statistics and Research Methods. Since 2014, post-grads have reached a mean 3.6 GPA, 154 GRE verbal, and 150 GRE quantitative mark.
The University of Minnesota Duluth has a priority undergrad deadline of December 1st with rolling admission thereafter. However, the Online B.A.Sc. in Psychology only considers Fall cohorts until June 15th. The Master of Arts in Psychological Science enforces a February 15th cutoff yearly. Tuition and Financial Aid
For 2018-19, the University of Minnesota Duluth is billing in-state Psychology Major (B.A.Sc.) $13,366 annually. Non-resident undergrads are paying $18,484 full-time. The Midwest Student Exchange Program discounts yearly tuition to $13,966. Living at the St. Louis County campus’ dorms like Griggs Hall adds $8,148 for room and board. UMD budgets include $288 for transport, $1,200 for textbooks, $2,000 for personal needs, and $102 for loan fees. Traditional bachelor’s attendance equals $24,424 in-state and $29,542 out-of-state. Note the Online Bachelor of Applied Science in Psychology is charging Minnesotans $462, Midwesterners $485, and non-residents $659 per credit.
