Students who attend the University of Louisiana Monroe can study psychology through the university’s School of Business and Social Sciences. Undergraduate students work toward a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. They can choose to complete a general degree or choose a subfield in areas that include:

The University of Louisiana Monroe is part of the University of Louisiana system. The school was founded in 1931 as Ouachita Parish Junior College. It went through several name changes over the years until, in 1999, the institution became the university that it is today.

University of Louisiana Monroe Accreditation Details
The university holds regional accreditation through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. This accreditation allows the university to provide students with undergraduate and graduate degrees. It also covers any certificate programs.
The University of Louisiana Monroe also holds academic accreditations for its counseling and psychology programs. The master’s and doctoral degrees in marriage and family therapy are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education. Its School Counseling, Community Counseling, and Substance Abuse Counseling programs have accreditation through the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs.
University of Louisiana Monroe Application Requirements
Undergraduate students can apply to the University of Louisiana Monroe using the online application. Students must also provide college entrance test scores, high school transcripts and proof of immunization.
In order to be accepted at the university, students must meet a number of requirements. All students must have a GPA of at least 2.35 and ACT scores of 18 in English or 19 in Math. Students may be admitted with a 2.0 GPA if they have an ACT score of at least 20.
In addition, all students must have completed the Board of Regents’ core curriculum while in high school. English classes required include English I, II, III and IV. Required math classes are Algebra I, Geometry I, Algebra Ii an at least one additional advanced math class. Biology I and Chemistry I are required science classes along with two other science classes from a pre-approved list. Students are expected to take World History and Civics classes and two additional history or economics classes. Students must have a minimum of two foreign language credits in Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Latin or Spanish. They must also have completed at least one art unit.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Tuition at the University of Louisiana Monroe is based on the number of hours the students chooses to take per semester. Any student taking a full load of 12 hours is charged about $4,500 per semester. Students can take additional courses at a rate of $46.85 per credit hour. Out-of-state residents are charged the same tuition but must also pay a non-resident fee of about $6,000.
Students who live on campus $8,000 to $9,000 per year for a room in the residence hall. Books are estimated to cost about $1,300 per year.
Graduate classes are roughly the same cost of undergraduate studies. The exception to this is the MBA program, which carries a fee of about $5,300 per semester for nine hours or more. University of Louisiana Monroe online rates are $400 for undergraduate courses and $500 or graduate classes, per credit hour.
A large number of scholarships are available to incoming freshmen. Annual, merit-based scholarships range from $1,000 per year to a $10,000 award with an additional Study Abroad package and an iPad. Students are considered for these scholarships immediately upon applying as long as they apply to the university prior to the deadline.
The university allows students to apply any third-party or private scholarships to the cost of tuition. Students can also use grants, if they qualify. All students should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid to learn if they have access to any need-based funds. Even those students who do not believe they will qualify for federal or state grants should complete the FAFSA. This form is also used to help students qualify for loans. The FAFSA is also used to determine a student’s eligibility for work-study and other on-campus employment opportunities.
