About the University of Kansas
The University of Kansas was founded in 1866 when it welcomed its first class to the unfinished building near Mouth Oread. Today, the enrollment for the college is about 28,500. University of Kansas Accreditation Details
The Higher Learning Commission has accredited the University of Kansas. The HLC is one of a handful of regional accreditation agencies, and it is recognized by the Department of Education. The University of Kansas has been continually accredited since 1913. Some programs at the University have specialty accreditation, as well.
University of Kansas Application Requirements
The application requirements for the B.S. in Behavioral Neuroscience start mid-semester. Students must complete PSYC 102, and they must also take and pass PSYC 104/105, PSYC 200/201/210/211. Students must also take one or more core courses, which includes PSYC 370/371, PSYC 375, or PSYC 381/380. Students must end with a 3.0 or better GPA for the courses just listed.
Along with such, students need to sign their Declaration Intent Form; to do this, students must attend the Psychology Admission Orientation.
To be admitted to the graduate program, students must plan to earn a Ph.D. Applicants should already have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, though students do not need to major in psychology while an undergraduate. Students must earn 15 credit hours in the psychology department, including having a course in experimental psychology, psychological research methods, or statistics. Students will need a resume, statement of purpose, and three letters of recommendation. They should also list any awards they received and what psychology courses they took/grades received.
To apply as a Freshman, potential students need to complete an online application, which requires them to create an account and sign in. Along with such, students can also send a paper application through the mail.
Students must include the $40 application fee unless they qualify for a military waiver or fee grant. Students must also self-report their ACT/SAT scores, self-report their GPA/grades from high school, and list their senior-year coursework; students must also have their transcripts sent to the college.
Tuition and Financial Aid
It is important that prospective students know how much their education will cost and ways to offset that with financial aid.
For the 2018-19 school year, Kansas residents can expect to pay an estimated $10,092, as well as any program fees. Campus fees are about $1,056 per year, and housing/meals can cost anywhere from $6,500 to $14,500. Books can cost about $1,076. Therefore, a student’s total cost for the year could range from $18,724 to $26,724.
Prices are higher for out-of-state residents with estimated tuition being $26,302 while everything else remains similar.
Students can find a variety of privately-funded scholarships; they can apply on those third-party websites. Financial aid is also available for those who qualify. Students can find an array of federal grants, work-study positions, and loans. The FAFSA form (found online) must be filled out completely for consideration of Federal aid. The University of Kansas gives scholarships to freshmen, which can be renewed throughout the four-year educational system.
