At Dawson Hicks Hall, the School of Arts & Sciences provides a B.A./B.S. in Psychology for University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Golden Lions to study diverse facets of people’s behavior. Chaired by Dr. Angela Andrade, the 120-credit, student-centered curriculum spans eight 16-week semesters of courses like Social Psychology and Lifespan Development. About the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff
The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff originated in 1873 when Senator John Middleton Clayton put forth legislation to create the Branch Normal College for training Black teachers. On September 27, 1875, Principal Joseph Carter Corbin welcomed the inaugural class of seven. In 1882, this Arkansas Industrial University branch graduated the state’s first African American. In 1892, the Branch Normal College was approved for land-grant funding under the Morrill Act. In 1902, Booker T. Washington’s mentee Isaac Fisher assumed leadership. In 1927, it became the Arkansas Agricultural, Mechanical & Normal College to expand its curriculum. On December 15, 1929, AM&N moved to the current campus in Pine Bluff. Forty-three years later, it joined the UA System as the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. In 1988, Chancellor Charles Walker notably established UAPB’s Center of Excellence in Fisheries Biology. In 2009, UAPB’s marching band was chosen for the Presidential Inaugural Parade.
Endowed for $3.9 million, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff now employs 202 faculty teaching 2,821 Golden Lions from 20 countries online or on its 318-acre Arkansas Delta campus outside Little Rock with 90+ organizations like Psych Club for 70.8 percent retention. On January 30, 2017, the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association (HLC-NCA) Institutional Actions Council informed the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff that its Level V accreditation was extended through 2026-27 under Chancellor Laurence B. Alexander, Ph.D., who earned the Freedom Forum Teacher of the Year Award. Located 657 miles north via Interstate 57 in Chicago, this mammoth 19-state Midwest Region accreditor is authorized by the U.S. Department of Education to review UAPB’s eight associate, 29 bachelor’s, and 10 graduate degrees.
The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Application Requirements
Enrollment at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff is classified as “moderately difficult” by Peterson’s since 2,055 of the 4,452 Fall 2018 applicants were chosen for 46 percent acceptance. First-year Golden Lions seeking the B.A./B.S. in Psychology must have completed 22 secondary units or the GED certificate. Only the Early Admission track allows high school seniors with 17-22 units at GPAs above 3.0. Freshmen need an overall GPA of 2.0 or better. Unconditional acceptance requires at least 19 ACT or 980 SAT scores. Transfers generally need 30+ undergrad credits graded C or higher from accredited colleges.
