The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is a large public university in Birmingham, Alabama, with a focus on research. The school’s affiliated university hospital, UAB Health System, provides hands-on experience for its medical students. Additionally, there are a number of centers and institutes, like the Institute for Human Rights, which provide students with access to internships, work experience and other educational offerings.
UAB’s bachelor’s programs are offered through a number of schools and colleges: the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Dentistry, the Collat School of Business, The School of Engineering, The School of Health Professions, The School of Nursing, School of Optometry, and the School of Public Health. The degree can be combined with others on campus, allowing students to earn a dual master’s degree in business and areas such as dentistry, public health, and engineering.
The College of Arts and Sciences offers a Bachelor’s of Science in Neuroscience, which includes coursework in psychology, math, chemistry, biology and neurobiology, and physics. With hands-on experience in high-tech labs, as well as an original research requirement overseen by UAB faculty, the degree prepares students for a career in medicine or academia.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham Application Requirements
To apply for an undergraduate degree at UAB, students need to submit an official high school transcript and an official record of their ACT or SAT score. Applicants also need to complete an online application, with a $30 nonrefundable application fee. Admitted students typically have a high school GPA of 3.73 or higher and an average ACT score of 25 or an average SAT score of 1210. International students whose first language is not English should submit proof of English proficiency, through a TOEFL, IELTS, IELA, DuoLingo, or GaoKao score in place of an SAT or ACT score.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham Tuition and Financial Aid
Undergraduate tuition at UAB costs $10,710 to $12,630 annually for residents of Alabama and $25,500 to $30,150 annually for nonresidents, depending on the selected program. The cost of graduate programs varies widely, with resident Joint Health Sciences students paying as little as $7,794 per year and nonresident Dentistry students paying as much as $54,012 a year. On-campus students may also be responsible for paying various laboratory or materials fees, depending on their program. Online classes cost between $441 and $505 per credit hour at all degree levels, regardless of residency status.
Various financial aid options are available for students at all degree levels, including federal financial aid, federal and private loans, and a large number of scholarships and grants offered by national, regional, and local organizations, as well as UAB and its departments. Options include academic and athletic scholarships, as well as those related to performance in music, theater, and the arts.
