About Union College

Union College is a private college in Kentucky that has a religious affiliation with the United Methodist Church. Founded in 1879, the United Methodist Church chose Barbourville for it because the city was growing at a fast rate. Though the size of the city never grew as large as some expected, the college itself grew rather fast. More than 800 undergrads now take classes from Union College every year. Those students come from several countries around the world and more than 20 American states. The college has a slightly higher number of male students than it does females.

Featured Programs

Students majoring in psychology and other fields can enroll in both Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science programs. Many of its psychology programs instill in students the information and skills that they need to become counselors and to complete graduate school programs. Students must take 35 credits of general education courses in addition to all their major classes and electives. Union College allows students to take classes during two main semesters and during the two shorter sessions offered during the summer.

Union College Accreditation Details

As Union College has regional accreditation, students shouldn’t have problems when it comes to transferring their credits or when they apply for financial aid. Its regional accreditation comes from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). The college’s social work and education programs also have accreditation. Counseling and psychology majors may take some courses from those departments and programs.

Union College Application Requirements

Union College asks students to complete four requirements to apply. Freshmen must pay a $10 application fee and submit the college’s online application.
