Bachelor of Science in Professional Studies – Psychology

The Bachelor of Science in Professional Studies provides students with an in-depth understanding of the psyche, therapy techniques and theories that allow them to help others reach their maximum potential. The program is available in both an online and on-campus format. The program is inter-disciplinary and helps students develop an understanding of communication, leadership, and management. The program is 120 credit hours and classes are held in eight-week sessions. Students gain an understanding of psychological understanding of human nature, spiritual struggles, change and development along with methods for applying that understanding to people in crisis. Students also learn to employ motivational techniques and how to interact with colleagues, clients, and consumers.

Bachelor of Science in Psychology

The Bachelor of Science in Psychology provides students with an understanding of people and their psychological issues. Students explore how the mind functions as a whole as well as effective theories and practices using a Christian worldview. Students are able to interpret scientific research and how personality affects human behavior. Students are prepared for employment in counseling, management, social work, marketing, medical fields or to continue their education at the graduate level. The program is available both online and on-campus. It requires 120 credit hours for completion.

Bachelor of Science in Psychology – Clinical & Counseling Psychology

The Bachelor of Science in Psychology with an emphasis on Clinical & Counseling Psychology is designed for students who have a desire to help others. The program teaches students to think about psychology logically and responsibly. Students explore case management, group facilitation, counseling skills, assessments as well as marriage and family. The program uses a Christian faith-based approach to counseling. Students explore methods for creating stronger marriages and families as well as how to use interviewing techniques that lead to decision-making and problem-solving. The program requires 120 credit hours and can be completed online or on-campus.

Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling

The Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling creates graduates who are able to help individuals manage and overcome life issues. The program prepares students to pursue licensing and combines models of counseling based on biblical principles. Students learn to apply knowledge and skills in human growth and development as well as group work, research and professional ethics. Students gain an understanding of the diagnosis and treatment of people with emotional and mental disorders. There is a focus on techniques and interventions designed to treat those impacted by crisis and trauma. The program requires 60 credit hours and is available on campus. There is an online program that requires an on-campus residency as well.

Master of Arts in Marriage, Couple & Family Counseling

The Master of Arts in Marriage, Couple & Family Counseling at Regent University prepares students to assist people in creating strong family structures in order to build strong communities. The program creates graduates who are advocates, community leaders and highly trained as compassionate therapists who want to help children, adolescents and adults who desire healthier relationships. Students are able to integrate systematic research and theories that improve family systems and dynamics while also applying techniques and interventions from a systems perspective. The program is 60 credit hours and available on campus. There is an on-campus program as well although it does require an on-campus residency.

Master of Arts in Pastoral Counseling Online

The online Master of Arts in Pastoral Counseling equips students with a biblically centered understanding of counseling, providing them with the tools necessary to guide others through decisions and crises. The program draws from Christian psychology, mental health counseling and clinical pastoral education fields. Students learn to address legal, ethical and liability issues as well as how to evaluate treatment issues. They are able to guide those in need using referrals and collaborations while integrating biblically-based strategies for effective and emotional healing. The program is 60 credit hours and is available completely online.

About Regent University

Regent University began in 1977, the vision of Dr. M.G. “Pat” Robertson. Dr. Robertson dreamed of establishing a graduate-level institution that would train men and women using a Christian focus. The campus was established in Virginia Beach, Virginia and opened the following year. The word “regent” describes someone who represents a king in his absence. The name was chosen for the university in order to create leaders who would represent Christ in whatever way they were called to serve Him. Regent University Accreditation Details

Regent University is regionally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. Accreditation indicates that the university has the resources necessary to meet their goals and objectives. The school volunteers to undergo periodic reviews to confirm that they continue to offer students the highest level of education possible. If any areas are identified as needing improvement, Regent agrees to address them immediately.

Regent University Application Requirements

Students who wish to attend on-campus programs must complete an online application and submit official high school transcripts. Students who have earned college credit after high school graduation should also submit official college transcripts from all institutes of higher learning attended. Students who have been out of high school for less than five years must also submit official ACT and SAT scores. A personal statement that describes the student’s testament of faith in God is also required.

Students who plan to attend online or who are transferring from another college or university must complete an online application and submit official high school transcripts. Students must also complete an admissions questionnaire.

Students who wish to enter Psychology or Counseling graduate programs must speak to an admissions counselor before applying as each degree program has different requirements for attending. All programs require that the student hold a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.

Regent University Tuition and Financial Aid

Undergraduate tuition for on-campus students is $595 per credit hour or $8,490 per semester. Students who are enrolled in undergraduate online courses pay $566 per credit hour. Online and on-campus graduate tuition rates per credit hour for the School of Psychology and Counseling are as follows:

  • Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health – $710
  • Master of Arts in Marriage, Couple & Family Counseling – $710

Financial aid is available and 88 percent of students receive some type of financial assistance. In 2016-17, over $21 million in institutional scholarships were awarded. In order to qualify for any financial assistance, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) which must be renewed each year.

Financial aid may be awarded in the form of scholarships, grants or loans. Students may also be offered employment to offset the cost of their tuition. Jobs may be available through the Christian Broadcasting Networking, The Founders Inn and Spa or the university.
