Northeastern University offers several programs in counseling and psychology that span undergraduate through doctoral study. Some programs are offered as online degrees, and other programs are offered in the classroom. Programs are also often available as a certificate or as full degree programs. For example, applicants may enroll in a certificate program in school psychology or earn a Master of Science in School Psychology.

For students who would rather focus on psychology, the university offers a handful of programs that include a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Education, and a Ph.D. in Psychology.

Students can also enroll in a minor in psychology, or behavioral neuroscience, as well as study applied behavior analysis from the Department of Psychology or enroll in a combined major path that pairs a degree in psychology with degrees in American sign language, computer science, data science, information science, or mathematics. Additional combined degrees in psychology are available in linguistics, health science, and business administration.

Students who enroll in a psychology program at Northeastern University must earn a grade point average of at least 2.00 to remain in the program or risk being placed on probation. Some of the classes in psychology that a student may take include Foundations of Psychology, Psychology and the Law, Sports Psychology, and Drugs & Behavior.

For students who go the route of a counseling degree, some of the classes that a student may take in his or her program include College Student Mental Health, Counseling & Applied Psychology in a Global Context, and Behavioral Assessment & Treatment of Health Problems in the 21st Century.

Throughout the degree programs in counseling and psychology, students will have the opportunity to enroll in several electives that can help students take on relevant subjects that will help them in their future careers. Some students may need to complete a clinical experience while enrolled that may take the form of fieldwork, an internship, or a practicum.

Northeastern University is a private university in Boston that was established in 1898. The university’s motto is “Light, Truth, Courage,” and there are more than 27,000 students enrolled for classes. Northeastern University Application Requirements

First-time college students who want to apply to Northeastern University will begin with the completed Common Application and an application fee of $75. The university also accepts the Coalition Application. Applicants must submit a guidance counselor and teacher recommendation, as well as a final transcript from secondary school. Those who want to apply as Early Action or Early Decision students will send the most recent transcript available.

Students can submit their standardized test scores officially through the SAT or ACT testing service, or they may self-report those scores through the Application Status Check. All students must demonstrate proficiency in English and may need to take a test to prove proficiency. Students in several Master of Science programs in areas like criminal justice and economics pay $1,330 per credit hour.

Students should create a CSS Profile and submit their FAFSA form by November 15 to qualify for the most generous financial aid packages. Each year, the university awards $296 million in institutional aid to students and suggests that students who earn a college degree make $1 million more during their lifetime than students who earn a high school diploma.
