Web courses from Kinesic Interviewing to Counseling Theory start five times yearly with an accelerated, eight-week format to graduate faster. Upperclassmen must complete the PSY 410 practicum before the Senior Project Demonstrating Excellence. Majors might also earn the KCTCS Scholarship, volunteer in St. Lucia, become Eagle Prep Mentors, join Prayer Group, and intern at The Carnegie Center.

Aligned to APA guidelines in 2005, the Bachelor of Arts in Psychology – Concentration in Alcohol and Drug Counseling trains on-campus Midway University undergrads for addressing epidemic levels of substance dependence through therapeutic healing. The 120-credit, in-person sequence chaired by Dr. Edie McClellan covers the essential functions of community mental health practitioners for addiction recovery. Traditional 16-week courses like Case Management, Group Therapy, and Physiological Psychology are delivered at a 14:1 student-faculty ratio. About Midway University

Midway University originated on October 3, 1849, when Lewis Letig Pinkerton and James Ware Parrish welcomed an inaugural class of 16 to the Kentucky Female Orphan School. The next year, Kentucky Senator George W. Williams helped obtain its state charter. During the 19th century, it served as a women’s high school for the Disciples of Christ Christian Church. By the 1900s, it transformed into Midway College for lower-division junior degrees. On November 20, 1974, Pinkerton Hall on its 200-acre Woodford County campus was named to the National Register of Historic Places. In 2004, Midway famously started Francisco’s Farm Art Fair in honor of Colonel John Francisco. On July 1, 2015, the Midway University name was adopted as master’s degrees grew. In Fall 2016, Midway switched from women’s to coeducational teaching.

Budgeting $35.23 million yearly, Midway University now serves 1,668 Eagles from 20 countries in three accredited schools online and face-to-face in the Lexington Metro with 15+ campus organizations like Psychology Club. In 2018, Midway received a Higher Education & Leadership Ministries Award from the Disciples of Christ for nearly 70 percent application growth. In 2017, the United Soccer Coaches gave Midway the College Team Academic Award. The Professional Grounds Management Society also bestowed its University Merit Award upon Midway. Midway University Accreditation Details

On December 10, 2015, Midway University announced that the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) Board of Trustees voted to reaffirm the Level III accreditation without sanctions through 2025 under its 10th president, Dr. John P. Marsden, who earned Bluegrass Tomorrow’s Excellence in Education Vision Award. Located 400 miles down Interstate 75 in Decatur, Georgia, this esteemed 11-state Southeast Region accreditor is authorized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) to evaluate Midway’s two associate, 31 bachelor’s, and seven master’s offerings. Midway is also approved by the Kentucky Educational and Professional Standards Board (EPSB).

Midway University Application Requirements

Starting at Midway University is classified “non-competitive” by Peterson’s because 1,513 of the 1,572 Fall 2017 applicants were enrolled for 96.2 percent acceptance. First-year Eagles flying toward the Bachelor of Arts in Psychology still must hold a high school diploma or GED though. General Educational Diploma scores of 660 and higher are mandated. Required academic preparation includes four English, three Algebra, two Social Science, and two Science units. Preference is given for cumulative GPAs of 2.5 and higher. Freshmen generally score at least 18 on the ACT or 970 on the SAT. Testing is optional for adults age 24 and older. Transfers holding 24+ semester credits at 2.0 GPAs or better are also exempt. International undergrads must prove English skills with a 460 paper, 146 computer, or 48 internet TOEFL score. Achieving a “C” or higher on one college-level English composition course sometimes suffices.

Midway University conveniently has rolling admission on a space-available basis. Registration occurs every 16 weeks on-campus or eight weeks online for Bachelor of Arts in Psychology majors. Anytime, complete the Midway or Common Application with $30 ($50 if foreign) by credit card or e-check. Residing at the Bluegrass Region campus’ dorms like Belle Wisdom Hall adds $1,600 to $2,700 for semester housing. Standard 19-meal plans for Piper Dining Hall are $2,040 extra. Midway budgets $1,200 for books and $7,000 for miscellaneous each year. Annual bachelor’s attendance equals about $41,430 on-campus and $32,950 if commuting. Online tuition is currently $395 per credit with a $150 LMS fee by course. The entire 120-credit Online BA degree costs $53,400.

According to the NCES College Navigator, the Financial Aid Office in McManis Center helps 73 percent of full-time Midway Eagles soar with median tuition assistance of $9,673 each for $7.04 million combined. University funds include the Pinkerton Scholarship, Opportunity Grant, Founders Scholarship, Provost Scholarship, Ruth Slack Roach Leadership Scholarship, Minority Scholarship, Athletic Scholarship, Transfer Scholarship, International Merit Scholarship, Out of State Award, Disciples of Christ Scholarship, Online Access Scholarship, and Legacy Scholarship. The Trustee Scholarship gifts $11,000 each year for $44,000 to freshmen with minimum 28 ACT scores. Current Bachelor of Arts majors with GPAs over 3.0 qualify for a $2,000 Psychology Scholarship.
