The B.A. in Psychology is available on campus and online. It requires 128 credit-hours of coursework, and at least 60 of those credit-hours must be completed at a four-year university. The final 30 hours of the program must be completed in residency. The residency requirement of the B.A. in Psychology is that at least half of the major credits must be completed in residency. Major course requirements for this program include social science, psychology, and social science research. The psychology course requirements include Abnormal Psychology, Social Psychology, and Multicultural Psychology as well as Human Cognition and Human Development Through Lifespan.
The B.S. in Forensic Psychology is also available in residential and online formats. This program is designed for psychology majors looking for job opportunities in criminal justice and corrections facilities. Many of the course requirements for this degree are the same as those of the B.A. in Psychology. The difference is that the B.S. in Forensic Psychology requires 27 credit-hours of criminal justice courses. Maryville offers two master’s programs in psychology. These programs can provide the preparation students need for a senior-level clinical position or a spot in a Ph.D. program at another university. The M.A. and M.S. programs offer different sets of specialization options. Maryville was founded in 1872 in a suburb of St. Louis, Mo. It is located on a 130-acre campus of hills, wooded areas, lakes, creeks, and walking trails, and it can be accessed by a 20-minute drive from downtown St. Louis. Maryville has a diverse student population of more than 10,200 students, including 4,500 undergraduate students and 5,500 graduate students. Maryville University Application Requirements
Prospective students should submit an online application at least 30 days before classes begin for the semester. Applications are reviewed in the order they are received, so earlier applications have a better chance of timely acceptance. Freshman applicants must provide a copy of a high school transcript showing the following academic requirements:
- Four years of English
- Three years of history
- Three years of social science
- Three years of mathematics, including algebra and geometry
- Three years of natural science, including biology, chemistry, and physics
Transfer students must have completed at least 30 credit-hours of coursework at an accredited university. All applicants must provide SAT or ACT scores and meet the minimum GPA requirement of 2.5 out of a possible 4.0. Graduate school applicants must provide proof of an accredited bachelor’s degree. Depending on which graduate program the student is applying for, he or she may need to submit GRE test scores and speak with an advisor prior to enrollment.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Tuition and fees for Maryville students are around $27,950 per year, and the cost of food, books, and living expenses can increase the total amount by around $12,000 per year. The tuition for graduate students is about the same as the cost for undergraduates, and online courses cost the same as traditional courses.
