The Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with Addictions Counseling requires the completion of the core requirements for the BS/BA in sociology along with addictions counseling track courses. A minimum of 120 credit hours is needed to complete the degree. The addiction counseling courses include Introduction to Addictions, Individual Counseling in Addictions, Addictions Counseling with Families, Ethics in Addictions Counseling, Group Counseling with Addiction Populations, Pharmacology and High-Risk Medical Issues, Psychopathology and Addictions, and Client Management Procedures. Students must also complete a practicum in addictions.
The Master of Science in Counseling in School Counseling requires a total of 48 credit hours are needed for completion. The courses include Counseling Skills Development, Lifespan Human Development, Foundations of Counseling, Lifestyle and Career Development, Appraisal in Counseling, Theories of Counseling, Management of Counseling Programs, Group Counseling: Theories and Procedures, Social and Cultural Foundations of Counseling, Professional Counseling in Elementary Schools, and Professional and Ethical Issues in Counseling. Students must also pass a comprehensive examination and complete internship and practicum experiences.
The Master of Science in Counseling Clinical Mental Health Counseling requires a total of 60 credit hours. The Case Management Certificate in Psychology requires a total of 18 credits. The courses include General Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, Elements of Learning, Child and Developmental Psychology, Case Management, and an Apprenticeship.
The bachelor’s in Psychology requires a total of 124 credit hours. The BA program requires a 20-hour sequence of out-of-department courses and 10 hours of a foreign language. About Fort Hays State University
Fort Hays State University is a public institution of higher learning located in Hays, Kansas. It was established in 1902 as the Western Branch of the Kansas Normal School. It relocated in 1904 to its current location. In 1914, the school became Fort Hays Kansas State Normal School and Kansas State Teachers College of Hays in 1923. It changes its name to Fort Hays Kansas State College in 1931 and it finally became Fort Hays State University in 1977. Today, the university is home to over 15,000 students on its 200-acre campus. It operates as the third largest state institution in Kansas. Fort Hays State University uses the semester-based academic calendar.
