The Bachelor of Science in Psychology at Delaware State University is designed for students who wish to make an impact in their community. They are provided hands-on education through a research project, volunteering in local counseling centers and internships. About Delaware State University
Delaware State University has been designated a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) and was initially known as Delaware College for Colored Students when it was established in 1891. The school was established under the Morrill Act with land purchased just north of the state capital, Dover for the campus. Because there was some confusion between the school and Delaware College in Newark, which eventually became the University of Delaware, the name was soon changed to the State College for Colored Students. The school kept that name for the next 54 years.
Featured Programs
In the early years, the school provided a college preparatory program for African-American students whose educational background was not at the college level. There were five college-level programs offered and a three-year teacher education program began in 1897. That program changed to a four-year program in 1911. The college preparatory program ended in 1917. The name was changed to Delaware State College in 1947 and gained university status in 1993.
Today, there are over 4,800 students attending Delaware State College. There are 42 undergraduate, 16 masters, and 5 doctoral degree programs. The University is consistently ranked highly by US News & World Report.

Delaware State University is regionally accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Regional accreditation indicates that the school has the resources to meet its goals and objectives. Delaware State University Application Requirements
Undergraduate applicants who have not earned college credit after high school must complete an application and provide official high school transcripts. Official ACT or SAT scores are also required. Applicants must have a GPA of 2.0 or higher as well as ACT scores of 17 or higher or SAT scores of 800 or higher. Applicants who have earned college credit after high school must submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. Those with less than 30 transfer credits must also provide official high school credits while those with fewer than 12 credits must also provide official ACT or SAT scores.
Students who wish to attend graduate programs at Delaware State University must provide official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended as well as official GRE, GMAT or MAT scores. Students must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited university and must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
Delaware State University Tuition and Financial Aid
Full-time undergraduate tuition at Delaware State University is $280 per credit hour for in-state students and for out-of-state students, it is $638 per credit hour. Online programs are $400 per credit hour for undergraduate programs. Graduate programs offered online range between $438 and $515 per credit hour while on-campus tuition is $430 per credit hour for in-state and $948 for out-of-state programs. Doctoral programs offered on campus are $544 per credit hour for both in-state and out-of-state residents.
Financial aid is available, and students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to qualify. The FAFSA must be renewed each year. Students may be eligible for scholarships which may be based on academic achievement, financial need or affiliation with a group or organization. Students may also be eligible for grants, loans, and work-study programs. The Office of Financial Aid works closely with students to help them cover the cost of tuition. Students must be fully admitted to Delaware State University in order to receive financial aid. Adults may qualify for the Osher/Crankstart Scholarships if they have been out of school for more than five years and are pursuing their first bachelor’s degree.
