Bachelor of Arts in Psychology

The Bachelor of Arts in Psychology degree at Colorado Christian University provides students with hands-on experiences through a 135-hour internship that combines working in the field with classroom learning. Students are provided an understanding of God’s creation within the context of psychology. Students are provided knowledge related to experimental and theoretical psychology as well as how to apply psychological principles in their personal life. Students may also complete dual degrees in psychology through an accelerated academic path. Under this plan, students complete their undergraduate degree in three years and then can complete either a Master of Arts in Biblical Studies, a Master of Arts in Counseling or a Master of Arts in Criminal Justice. Master of Arts in Counseling

The Master of Arts in Counseling is available in a totally online format and provides students with sound counseling principles based on Christian faith. The program prepares students to sit for the National Counselor Exam that can lead to licensure in Colorado and other states. The program combines coursework, professional practice and mentoring relationships that prepare students to be responsive to all cultures. Students study the whole person, including the spiritual dimension and are able to integrate faith into current counseling theory. Courses required include:

About Colorado Christian University

The Denver Bible Institute was founded in 1914 with only two principles – grace and truth. The first classes had only two students and one teacher but by 1945, the school had expanded significantly. That year, the school was renamed the Denver Bible College and four-year degrees were offered. In 1949, the school became Rockmont College.

That same year, the Western Bible Institute was created and, in 1985, the two schools merged to become Colorado Christian College. Colorado Baptist University joined the school in 1989 to create Colorado Christian University.

Colorado Christian University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. Accreditation indicates to parents, students, and employers that students who graduate from the university have received the highest quality of education. The school undergoes periodic voluntary evaluations to confirm that programs offered meet the standards set by the accrediting agency. Colorado Christian University Application Requirements

Students who have not earned college credit after high school graduation should have a cumulative high school GPA of 2.8, an ACT composite score of 21 or an SAT score of 1460 or higher. Students must complete an application for admission and submit official high school transcripts. An essay is required and students must provide a strong spiritual recommendation from a pastor, youth pastor, youth worker or spiritual mentor. Students must also provide official SAT or ACT scores.

Students who have earned college credit after high school graduation should have a cumulative college GPA of 2.8. They must complete an application for admission and provide official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. A spiritual recommendation from a pastor, youth pastor, youth worker or spiritual mentor is also required.

Students who wish to enter the Master of Arts in Counseling must complete an application and provide required, program-specific essays. Students must provide a current resume and official transcripts from all colleges and universities. One transcript must show that the student has earned a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university. Students must provide a criminal background check from CastleBranch from every country they have lived in for the past seven years and complete a candidacy writing sample. Students may also be required to submit to an admission interview.

Colorado Christian University Tuition and Financial Aid

Full-time tuition at Colorado Christian University is $15,683 per semester. Tuition for the Master of Arts in Counseling is $681 per credit hour. Undergraduate students may qualify for scholarships and educational grants as part of a financial aid package. They may also be offered employment that will offset the cost of tuition. Students may be offered loans which must be repaid after graduation. Graduate students may qualify for scholarships and grants as well as loans to cover the cost of their education.

In order to qualify for financial aid, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA must be renewed on an annual basis. In addition, students must be in good academic standing with the university in order to continue receiving financial aid. Graduate students who attend on campus may also qualify for fellowships and assistantships to help with tuition costs.

Colorado Christian University offers several counseling and psychology programs that are available in both on-campus and online formats.
