Fordham University has both undergraduate and graduate options for students interested in studying psychology. There is one undergraduate psychology program available, an accelerated five year Master of Science psychology program, and several graduate programs, including both master and doctorate tracks.
Students who enter the undergraduate psychology program at Fordham will be prepared to enter into a graduate program after graduation, or they can choose to enter into the workforce. All students are required to take several psychology courses, but they can also choose from several electives including Urban Psychology, Health Psychology, and Family Psychology. Many courses are available both online and in traditional classrooms.
There are two master’s degree programs from Fordham University in psychology: the Master of Science in Applied Psychological Methods and the Master of Science in Clinical Research Methods.
The MS in Applied Psychological Methods can be done in less than two years, though there is a full semester internship, which is a requirement of the program. This is a versatile option in psychology, and those who are successful in the program typically go on to enter careers that are focused on human behavior, educational testing, and data analysis.
The MS in Clinical Research Methods is a very selective program at Fordham, and only a handful of students are admitted to the program each year. This is a two-year program, and the main emphasis is on data and statistics. To complete this program, students must do a semester-long research project and a master’s thesis. Many students who complete this program go into a doctorate program. Those who don’t often find work as analysts or project coordinators.
The online Master of Arts in Pastoral Care is offered through the Graduate School of Religion and Religious Education and prepares future counselors for certification from the Association of Professional Chaplains or the National Association of Catholic Chaplains
Fordham University also offers three doctorate programs: the Ph.D. in Applied Developmental Psychology, the Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, and the Ph.D. in Psychometrics and Quantitative Psychology.
The Ph.D. program in Applied Developmental Psychology is nationally recognized and is a five-year program. During the first two years, a student earns their MA in psychology, and the last three years earns their Ph.D. Most graduates of this program go on to teach at local NYC universities. Others go on to work for non-profits.
The Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program at Fordham is similar to the other Ph.D. programs, and students often go on to work in research or practice psychology in a clinical setting. The Ph.D. in Psychometrics and Quantitative Psychology program prepares students for careers in teaching and statistics. Both of these programs require a Ph.D. dissertation and comprehensive exam.

About Fordham University
Fordham University is a Catholic university that has been educating students in the New York City area for more than 175 years. The school has five different campuses, two located in the New York City area, and two located outside, yet close to, NYC. The fifth campus is located in London, UK.
The original campus was founded by the Bishop of New York, John Hughes, in 1839. It was first called St. John’s College, and it opened its doors in 1841. There were six students enrolled. Financially, Bishop Hughes was struggling, so he chose to sell his university to the Society of Jesus in the United States in 1846.
The college remained a small, liberal arts college for several decades, growing slowly. In 1904, it was decided that the small college would transition to a university. This process took several decades and the name was changed to Fordham University in 1905. Over the years, the university met several hurdles, including low enrollment numbers, financial difficulties, and lack of faculty to teach the growing student body. The Manhattan campus was founded in the 1960s, and throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Fordham continued to grow. By the 1990s, many programs at Fordham were nationally recognized, including the Fordham Law School and Graduate School of Social Service.

Fordham University Application Requirements
For students who are interested in applying to Fordham University as a typical freshman, the Common Application is required. Potential students must also include an essay, as the school does not do any formal interview. The essay must show the admissions team who the student is, what their goals are, and why they feel like they are a good fit for Fordham.
In addition to the application and essay, students applying to Fordham University must also submit high school transcripts, ACT or SAT scores, and a letter of recommendation.
There are certain deadlines that applicants must keep in mind before applying to Fordham. The university asks that applications are complete, including test scores, but also understands that this is not always possible. So, applicants are advised that the listed deadlines are for the application only, though every effort should be made to get scores and transcripts in on time.
The deadline for Early Action and Early Decision is November 1. For all other undergraduate applicants, the deadline is January 1.
The graduate admissions process is a bit different than the undergraduate process. Each program has a different set of application requirements, so applicants are advised to refer to the guidelines for the program they wish to enter. In general, students must submit an official application, letters of recommendation, GRE scores, if applicable, and official transcripts from all previous college work. Since graduate admission is available in Fall, Winter, and Summer sessions, the deadlines vary, too.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Undergraduate tuition at Fordham University is $51,285 per year, as of 2018. This assumes that students will take anywhere from 12 to 18 credit hours. Part-time students will pay $1,710 per credit hour. There are also other fees that undergraduate students must pay including a $70 application fee and $267 general fee.
Graduate students pay $1,486 per credit hour, and also must pay various fees including the general fee and application fee. Graduate students who take more than six credits must also pay $1,103 to $1,970 for health insurance.
Financial aid is available to all students, though each student must fill out a FAFSA form to become eligible. More than 93 percent of incoming freshmen get financial aid from Fordham in the form of grants, loans, scholarships, and work-study.
